1 MEAL A DAY FOR WEIGHT LOSS: WHAT TO EXPECT!

Eating one meal a day has become increasingly popular with people looking to lose weight or improve overall health. Me too I stumble across a one meal a day diet a few month after researching diet plan which decreases weight loss.

I was inspired to try this 1 meal a day diet, but like many of us, I procrastinated to prioritise my health since I was working. So, I decided to follow this diet while drinking a lot of water, doing light exercises and increasing my sleep. What a challenge!

The potential health benefits of eating one meal a day are primarily related to fasting–restricting calorie intake during a set time period — and calorie restriction in general. But how those it really work?

Eating one meal a day just like intermittent fasting is a way of manipulating how your body uses fuel. When you take in carbohydrates, your body breaks them down into sugars. If your blood have more sugars than it’s suppose, a chemical called insulin will carry that extra sugar into fat cells.

Additionally, when you don’t eat for extended periods of time, your body produces less insulin. Your cells sill need energy for fuel, so your fat cells release energy to compensate. For this to happen, however, you have to avoid eating for long enough that your insulin levels drop.

THE CONS

One study in 2007 says ” Eating once a day to an increase in blood pressure and cholesterol ”. So if your one meal a day consists of highly processed fried foods or too many simple carbs, you will feel pretty bad, even if you’re losing weight.


Other risks factors may include:

  • Physical weakness
  • Trouble focusing, fatigue
  • Feeling extremely hungry
  • Nutrients deficiency

THE PRO

Not only does one meal a day diet helps to loss weight but it has been proven to have a number of health benefits which includes:

  • Fasting slow down neurodegeneration and promote longevity.
  • It reduces heart diseases like LDL ( bad ) Cholesterol.
  • It’s easy to follow since there is no need to count calories.

When I started this diet I was only eating during the evening after work. It was a struggle at first, but it look so amazing how quickly the body adjust to this new diet. It’s not only easy to follow but it helps to save money on lunch and snacks.

DOES THAT MEAN YOU SHOULD?

Whether or not one day meal diet is the right fasting diet, it’s something you should discuss with your primary care provider.

We all have different metabolism, it may work for some but not everybody.
