These koeksisters are South African donuts which are beautifully shape with a crispy exterior.
It has an atttractive golden-brown colour that is hard to ignore.

Ingredients
SYRUP
- 1 tablespoon Vanilla essence
- 2 tsp Lemon juice
- 3 cups Sugar
- 1 cup Water
DOUGH
- 4 tsp Baking powder
- 1 1/2 cups Cake flour
- 1/4 tsp Salt
- 20 g Butter
- 150 ml Milk
- 3 cups oil
Preparation:
— Into a casserol, pour water and sugar and boil on low heat. Stir until the sugar dissolved and boil for 7 minutes.
— Add lemon juice and vanilla essence into the same casserol and put the casserol into the fridge.
— Into a bowl, mix the salt, flour, and baking powder thoroughly. Add milk and mix until a dough is formed.
— Roll the dough out to a thickness and it into thin strips. Join the end of 3 strips on one side. Braid the strips and join their ends.
— Into a heated pot, add oil, put the koeksisters and fried until you get a golden-brown color.
— After frying the koeksisters, soaked them into the prepared syrup and place them into a bowl. Serve and eat!
TIPS: Always keep the syrup into the fridge to keep it cool and to make the koeksister crispy.
